Submission Guidelines

Please keep in mind that this is a Premier Digital Art Gallery, so submit work that you are proud of.
Make sure you submit to the correct category folder, or the submission will be declined.
If for some reason your Submission does get declined, please take no offense.
The front page is not a place for discussing Group Moderator decisions.
Direct questions regarding decisions to the correspondence message.
Please treat Staff politely, as they are here to help you.

:pointr:Submission Information and Guidelines

What CSS did you use to make this journal appear like it has no box?

I'm not sure how the "intermediate to advanced skill" requirement applies to me. In order to judge a person's skill at using a particular tool, one has to be familiar with the use and capabilities of that tool. I use Paint Shop Pro 8 a fair amount and I'll admit I'm not very good at "painting" with it, but I believe I'm an advanced user of its vector-drawing and image-processing capabilities.

What makes things more complicated is that I'm also a programmer. Many of my digital works make use of programs I wrote myself to generate or otherwise manipulate digital artwork. Most of these custom programs are written for a specific art project. How is the staff to judge my skill level on the resulting pieces? My "artist's comments" usually describe at least some of what went into the piece, but I don't often explicitly say "I wrote custom software to do this" because my watchers should be able to infer that.

The one thing I've tried to submit to this group was one of those. It was based on equations of temperature and brightness, evaluated for every pixel, in nearly a hundred different wavelengths before conversion to RGB. And I tweaked those equations of temperature and brightness until I got just the image I had in my head. The submission was rejected. At the time, there were 3 requirements for gallery submissions: no nudity (check); something trivial which I don't remember (digital art, or my own work, or something; check); and something about not looking like something anyone could do in 10 minutes. Well I certainly spent more than 10 minutes perfecting my Ring Of Fire, and I can't imagine someone re-creating it with "standard" digital painting tools in 10 minutes either.

Maybe this is why the submission guidelines were reworked. But I still don't see how the group staff is going to properly assess my skill level when I use my own custom tools so frequently.

Feel free to check out my gallery. :gallery:
Feel free to get naked. :strip:
Feel free to ignore these suggestions, though frankly I think they're good advice.

Thanks, I'll keep these in mind :)

The last guideline has me confused: Why can't work be submitted to this group if the work is also submitted to a contest?

:iconalltheoriginalnames:
You can not submit a deviation to the Group that is entered in an ongoing contest because we feel that it gives contestants an unfair advantage. But submitting deviations that have been entered in a contest that has already concluded is perfectly acceptable.
:iconstrangeted:
Thank you for the explanation.

I'll keep these revamped rules in mind the next time I submit something.
